The Court takes its cue from card games once played in the British drawing room, where they formed part of the rhythm of social life. More than a game, it created a space where conversation unfolded, connections were maintained and a person’s wit, judgement and character could come into view.

At the heart of the collection are the familiar figures of the deck: kings, queens and jacks, each with a role, a rank and a character of their own.

Reinterpreted through contemporary illustration, these archetypes move beyond the card table and into the modern home, offering a new take on figures that have been recognised for generations.

THE STORY BEHIND THE COURT

The Court is a collection of illustrated fine bone china and candles inspired by the figures of a traditional playing-card deck. Kings, queens and jacks are reworked as distinct characters, with a contemporary take on forms that have been recognised for generations.

The idea comes from the place card games once held in drawing-room life. They were part of conversation, company and the quiet rituals of an evening at home. The collection brings that history into the present through pieces designed to be used, displayed and enjoyed every day.

Our fine bone china is made in Stoke-on-Trent, England, then hand decorated with 22ct gold rim. The designs appear across mugs, trinket dishes and other pieces, alongside candles from the same collection.

Each design works on its own, while the King and Queen also form a natural pair. They can be chosen for yourself, given as a wedding or anniversary gift, or brought together as matching pieces for two people.
